Josh Gordon’s return to the NFL is far from a guarantee.

Following the new CBA ending marijuana suspensions, many have wondered if that means Gordon, who is currently on the Seahawks, can return to the league. (RELATED: David Hookstead Is The True King In The North When It Comes To College Football)

However, it’s not that simple. According to ProFootballTalk, Gordon is still banned under the old suspension rules, and it’s up to Commissioner Roger Goodell to decide his fate.

Suspensions being stopped going forward won’t retroactively reinstate Gordon or anybody else.

Am I happy marijuana suspensions in the NFL are over? Yes. Do I think that means we should rush Josh Gordon back onto the field? No.

Josh Gordon’s substance abuse issues are a lot worse than occasionally smoking some marijuana. He has a long record of being suspended.

He needs some serious help, and the NFL should honestly be one of the last things he’s concerned with. Football won’t matter at all if Gordon isn’t healthy.

Now, if Gordon is able to demonstrate his life is on track, then Goodell should let him play again. If not, then the NFL should focus on getting him some help.

Again, football won’t mean a damn thing if he’s not mentally and physically healthy.
