The NFL will reportedly start looking at playing an abbreviated season during the coronavirus pandemic.
According to Peter King, “it’s likely” NFL executives will “spend their extra time this month working on 12-game and 14-game schedule alternatives.” (RELATED: David Hookstead Is The True King In The North When It Comes To College Football)
A 14 game schedule would start in the middle of September and a 12 game schedule would get underway in October. Despite the fact President Donald Trump seemed to think the season will start as planned, alternatives are being looked at.
In conference call with major league sports commissioners on Saturday, President Donald Trump said he believes the NFL season should start on time in September, sources familiar with the call told @wojespn and me. More on call coming at https://t.co/rDZaVFhcDQ.

Donald Trump also told commissioners that he hopes to have fans back in stadiums and arenas by August and September, sources said, though it is currently unclear if medical experts find that to be a realistic timeline amid the current coronavirus pandemic. https://t.co/EFqDryGlTQ

Will fans be happy with an abbreviated season? Probably not, but it’s certainly better than not getting the games at all.
Given how desperate people are for sports, I think it’s safe to assume we’ll be happy with whatever we can get.

If that means we only get 14 or 12 games for the 2020 campaign, then so be it. I’d take that with a smile on my face if the alternative is not having a season at all.
However, the NFL looking at bumping back the season isn’t a good sign for college football. The college schedule already appears to be in huge trouble.
The NFL shifting and changing their schedule would just be the latest sign that the college season doesn’t happen as planned.

I’m hoping like all hell that’s not the case, but I’m mentally prepared for it if it is. I think I speak for the whole world when I say we’ve had enough of this coronavirus nonsense.
