NFL commissioner Roger Goodell has given up his salary during the coronavirus pandemic.
According to USA Today, Goodell volunteered to give up his salary during the crisis. His base salary is believed to be $4 to $5 million annually and his total compensation is in the range of $40 million.
USA Today also reported that NFL employees making more than $100,000 will also take pay cuts of up to 15%. (RELATED: David Hookstead Is The True King In The North When It Comes To College Football)
Happy Draft Day, NFL fans. Good luck to every team. A quick tour of my basement where I’ll be announcing picks for the 2020 #NFLDraft.

While I’m certainly not a fan of Roger Goodell, I have to applaud this move. He’s the most powerful man in sports and he leads the NFL.
If other employees around the league are taking pay cuts during the crisis, then Goodell should lead from the front.
That’s exactly what he’s doing by giving up his salary for the time being.
.@TomBrady, I gladly accept the #ALLINCHALLENGE. Be on the lookout for the NFL VIP Super Bowl package. I’m challenging @ericstonestreet & @PFHOFPrez David Baker to join. pic.twitter.com/ay2FCokHG8

For what it’s worth, the vast majority of his salary is made up outside of his base pay. His base salary only represents about 10% of his total pay.
Still, it’s important to lead from the front. If other NFL employees are taking pay cuts of up to 15%, then Goodell shouldn’t sit it out.

While I’m not a fan of his, this is a solid leadership move and he can certainly afford it.
