Dortmund beating Schalke put up some monster TV ratings Saturday on FS1.
According to Michael Mulvihill, the Bundesliga match put up an overnight rating of .33 in America. Just how big of a deal is that? (RELATED: David Hookstead Is The True King In The North When It Comes To College Football)
Well, it was up 725% percent from the last Bundesliga game to air on FS1 before the shut down!
The return of the Bundesliga on FS1 earned a .33 overnight rating for Dortmund’s emphatic win over Schalke.
That’s a +725% gain over the last FS1 Bundesliga match prior to the shutdown.

Obviously, the numbers don’t even come close to matching college football or any other major sports, but that’s not the point.
The point is that a soccer game happening in Germany saw a huge TV bump here in America. Is it safe to say people want sports back?

I think it’s very safe to say we’re ready for sports to return. You know people are desperate when they’re tuning in for German soccer.
The numbers speak for themselves. People who wouldn’t generally tune in watched over the weekend at a substantial rate.
A +725% increase is just absurd. It just goes to show how desperate people are to watch literally anything involving sports.

If you think these numbers are impressive, just wait until you see the kind of numbers college football and the NFL put up in the fall. They’re going to be huge.
Props to the Bundesliga for giving fans something to watch over the weekend. We’re coming back. It’s going to take time, but we’re coming back!
