Greece has started a partial reopening of its economy, hoping to be open in time for the tourist season.

The country is hoping that tourism is going to help the country to recover from the lockdown of the economy due to coronavirus, according to Reuters. The restaurants are following specific quarantine guidelines that include larger distances between tables and servers wearing masks. The country has only 2,878 cases and 171 deaths from the virus. “We have missed this, this is psychological therapy for us, so of course it’s important, very, very important,” said Katerina Stravaridi, a cafe customer in Athens, to Reuters. Greece has been on lockdown since early March and has benefitted from the early closures, as it’s death rate and case rate is one of the lowest in Europe.
“Greece is open and safe. It’s a destination where one can enjoy one’s holiday while at the same time securing one’s health,” said Kostas Bakoyannis, the mayor of Athens, to Reuters.
