Los Angeles Rams safety Taylor Rapp recently put himself through an exercise routine that burned 10,000 calories in a single day.
Rapp wrote the following description in part on Instagram of the weekend exercise routine:
My brother, @arapp14 thought it was a brilliant idea of creating a challenge where you try to burn 10,000 calories in a single given day. Well, I attempted it yesterday… 125 miles biking (103 in one ride), 1.25 miles swimming, 4 miles hiking, 3 miles running, a short workout, and 7,300 feet of elevation later, #10kcaloriechallenge completed I started riding at 4:30 AM, after getting only 4 hours of sleep, and finally hit 10k calories at 9:09 PM.

First off, props to him. We love seeing people get in shape. I myself used to be incredibly fat and now I’m not.
So, trust me. Nobody loves seeing people get in shape more than I do. That’s just a fact.
Lots of people refuse to believe that I used to be fat. These days, I resemble a solid dual-threat quarterback or young Matthew McConaughey.
Since it’s important to poke fun at yourself and laugh, here are a few photos to prove that I used to be hefty. pic.twitter.com/xkyyOGevev

Having said that, let’s not sit here and pretend like this little stunt will make Rapp a better NFL player. What part of this routine will make him a better tackler? Does bike riding help you read an offense better?
Does hiking help you jump routes? The answer is “no.”
Last time I checked, Rapp is out here trying to win Super Bowls. To quote the great Kenny Powers, “I play real sports. I’m not trying to be the best at exercising.”
On one hand, I have to give props to Rapp for being a guy interested in staying fit. At the same time, I’m not sure how any of this will help him on the field.
Remember this little fact, folks. Every minute you’re spending not focused on winning is a minute somebody else is.
