President Donald Trump signed an executive order prioritizing the international spread of religious liberty Tuesday.
The order calls for the State Department to draft a plan for adapting U.S. foreign policy to encourage the spread of religious freedom. It also appropriates $50 million annually to the promotion of global religious freedom and orders agencies dealing with foreign affairs to set up religious freedom training programs for federal employees.
“Religious freedom for all people worldwide is a foreign policy priority of the United States, and the United States will respect and vigorously promote this freedom,” the order reads. Critics said the march was little more than a photo-op, however, and ridiculed the administration for dispersing peaceful protesters to make way for the president.
