British journalist Piers Morgan wrote Monday that President Donald Trump should kneel in the Oval Office to bring the country together in the aftermath of George Floyd’s death.

Morgan praised demonstrations that took place this past weekend, where some police officers and members of the National Guard took a knee in solidarity with protesters. Politicians throughout the country have also kneeled in solidarity with protesters, including presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden. “Doubtless President Trump views Biden and all the new kneelers in the same ‘son of a bitch’ way he viewed NFL stars led by Colin Kaepernick when they took the knee during the national anthem,” Morgan wrote in The Daily Mail. “Yet the cold hard truth for the President is that Kaepernick’s been shown by George Floyd’s murder to be on the right side of history, and Trump’s increasingly showing himself to be on the wrong side.”

Trump has harshly criticized Kaepernick and other NFL players who have kneeled for the national anthem before games, and worried Monday that NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell would allow players to resume kneeling ahead of the upcoming season.

“If President Trump really wants to make a statement about race and unity, one that rocks the entire world, then with the American people watching live on TV, he should simply take the knee in the Oval Office,” Morgan added. “In one stunning moment, Trump could heal so many wounds, unify so much of the country, and quite probably get himself re-elected.”

Morgan has touted his friendship with Trump since winning “The Celebrity Apprentice” in 2008, but he has criticized the president’s response to the coronavirus pandemic and protests that have taken place in response to Floyd’s death. Morgan recently clashed with Trump lawyer and former Republican New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani during an episode of “Good Morning Britain,” where the two men traded personal insults.
