Joe Burrow’s dad Jim was more than happy to retire in order to watch his son play.

Jim spoke with Laura Rutledge for a special Father’s Day interview, and he talked about retiring from college football coaching so that he could watch the LSU Tigers play. (RELATED: David Hookstead Is The True King In The North When It Comes To College Football)

“I would have been happy just to see Joe have a successful year and LSU have a good year. Then things started to happen. Became something big happened every week, and I was able to watch all 15 games with my wife Robin, experience tailgating and see Joe and LSU do what they did,” Jim explained in part during an interview with Laura Rutledge. He added the year before he only saw three games.

“Things started to happen.” Yeah, that’s certainly one way to describe what happened with Joe Burrow and the LSU Tigers during the 2019 season.

Things certainly did happen. Joe Burrow set the world on fire, won the Heisman, led the Tigers to a national title and was picked first overall in the draft by the Bengals.

You can just tell in that interview that Jim has so much love for his son. The man retired for the sole purpose of watching his kid play some ball.

He went from seeing three games in a season to watching the Tigers race to a 15-0 perfect season. It really doesn’t get much better than that at all.

I don’t know why, but I’m always a sucker for family stories like this one. I love parents and kids talking about the support systems they have.

America could certainly use a lot more of that right now.

Props to Jim for being a hell of a good dad.
