This is the kind of attitude and energy I want Mertz and the entire squad carrying into the 2020 season. Bring it on.

It’s going to be so much fun to see what role Mertz plays this season for the Badgers. The entire state is talking about his inevitable quarterback battle with Jack Coan in camp.

I’ve been pretty consistent that I expect Coan to open the season as the starter, but there’s no doubt that the redshirt freshman has a higher ceiling.

I think there’s a very high chance that you see both of them play during the 2020 campaign. Coan might get the majority of reps, but Mertz is still going to get his shot.

We didn’t bring a quarterback of his level into Madison so that he could ride the bench. We brought him to Madison to push for a title.

The season is a little more than a month away! I can’t wait to see what Coan, Mertz and the rest of the Badgers do! It’s going to be a fun year.
