The Wake Forest transfer announced that he will opt out of the upcoming season and prepare for the NFL draft. (RELATED: David Hookstead Is The True King In The North When It Comes To College Football)

He was expected to compete for the starting job with JT Daniels.

This is a bit of a shocking update. You almost have to wonder how much of this decision has to do with Daniels being in Athens.

Prior to Daniels showing up, there was no question that Newman was going to be the starting quarterback. The arrival of the former USC starter might have changed everything.

Now, Newman is opting out to prepare for the NFL. I’m genuinely curious how much of this has to do with coronavirus and how much has to do with who is in the quarterback room.

Either way, Georgia is now without the man who was supposed to be the starting quarterback as of six weeks ago.
