Cam Newton has won the quarterback battle for the New England Patriots.

According to Jim McBride and multiple other reports, Newton was officially named the starter Thursday. He beat out Brian Hoyer and Jarrett Stidham for the job. (RELATED: David Hookstead Is The True King In The North When It Comes To College Football)

Remember when people thought there was a real chance Jarrett Stidham was going to start over Cam Newton? That sure was cute.

I’m not even sure there was ever much of a quarterback battle to begin with. You don’t sign a guy like Newton to stash him on the bench.

You sign a guy like Newton to put him under center and run the offense. Now, he’s in complete control in New England.

I’m not sure how anyone didn’t see this coming. Stidham might have a future in the NFL as a starter. He might not.

I honestly don’t know. I do know there was never much of a shot of him beating out Newton for the starting gig.

It’s now time to find out what Newton can do with the Patriots in 2020. It sure is going to be fun to watch.
