A famous Bollywood actress has been arrested after her boyfriend was found dead from an alleged suicide, BBC News reported.
Rhea Chakraborty, 28, was accused by her boyfriend’s family of stealing his money, among other allegations. The family filed an official police complaint against her claiming that she is guilty of abatement to suicide, according to BBC News.

India’s narcotics control authority arrested Chakraborty in a drug case that is reportedly connected to her boyfriend’s death, BBC News reported. Authorities also arrested Chakraborty’s brother, Showik, and Rajput’s former house manager, Samuel Miranda, related to the same drugs case. The charges against the three have not been revealed, according to the report.
Indian television covered the story extensively, and public debate erupted around the personal lives of Chakraborty and Rajput as the story captivated India.
The actress has been the target of social media rumors. Users accuse her of getting her boyfriend addicted to drugs, and many on social media blamed her for his suicide, BBC News reported.
Chakraborty denies all the allegations and charges against her, telling the Supreme Court that she has been subjected to an “unfair media trial.” She issued a statement saying that she “denies all allegations of abatement of suicide, misappropriation of funds, and others or otherwise.”
“The media is requested not to speculate its own theories and make unsubstantiated claims,” she added.
