Democratic nominee Joe Biden maintained his narrow lead over President Donald Trump in the six most competitive battleground states, according to a CNBC poll released Wednesday.
Biden is ahead of Trump in Wisconsin, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Arizona, Florida and North Carolina, according to a summary of the poll data, and leads Trump by margins almost identical to those in CNBC’s previous poll which surveyed voters before the Republican National Convention.
Biden leads by six points in Wisconsin, six points in Michigan and four points in Pennsylvania, three states that Trump won in 2016 by a total of just 77,000 votes. In CNBC’s Aug. 26 poll, Biden led Trump by five points in Wisconsin, six points in Michigan and three points in Pennsylvania.
Biden leads by four points in Arizona, three points in Florida and two points in North Carolina. Two weeks ago he led Arizona voters by two points, three points in Florida and one point in North Carolina. Forty-five percent of the swing state voters surveyed said that they viewed Trump favorably, compared to 52% who viewed him unfavorably, according to CNBC.
The poll comes after some surveys appeared to show a small post-convention bump for the president in some battleground states. A Trafalgar poll released Friday showed Trump up three points in Florida, and a Monmouth poll released Sept. 2 showed Biden’s lead in Pennsylvania narrowing to three points. The CNBC poll, conducted in partnership with Change Research, surveyed 4,103 likely voters in battleground states from September 4-6 and has a margin of error of 1.4%.
