Halloween won’t be the same this year in Los Angeles County after trick-or-treating and parties were banned by the city.

The city released a public health notice Saturday advising the city on the things residents could and couldn’t do to celebrate Halloween.

“Since some of the traditional ways in which this holiday is celebrated does not allow you to minimize contact with non-household members, it is important to plan early and identify safer alternatives,” the government notice released by the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health said. “The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health would like to share information on how to take part in this holiday in a manner that reduces your risk of developing COVID-19,” the department added. “Since some of the traditional ways in which this holiday is celebrated are not permitted this year consider some safer alternatives that are listed below.”

Residents are not allowed to participate in traditional trick-or-treating or “trunk-or-treating,” which is when you go car to car instead. Parties with non-household members are also not permitted, even if they are outdoors.

Carnivals, festivals and haunted houses are also not allowed, according to the notice.

This is so sad. Yet another thing that coronavirus has ruined for Americans. Halloween is supposed to be such a fun holiday for kids and families. I really hope people can figure out ways to get around these rules.
