A pro-worker, anti-outsourcing position on jobs has become a cornerstone issue for many politicians, including President Donald Trump, and the president played a crucial role in shifting the debate toward that outlook during his presidential campaign in 2015 and 2016.

Whereas pro-radical free market capitalism dominated the post-NAFTA discussion on labor and the American job market, Trump almost singlehandedly shifted the focus toward support for domestic workers.
