George Orwell’s “1984” tells the eerie story of an imagined future where the world is in perpetual war and the government is spying on every citizen and propaganda is a tool used to control the masses. The comparison between the book’s predictions and life today has been repeatedly drawn in a number of contexts, with many calling 2020 “dystopian.”

“You had to live – did live, from habit that became instinct – in the assumption that every sound you made was overheard, and, except in darkness, every moment scrutinized.”

“By sharing a small act of thoughtcrime he turned the two of them into accomplices.”
