Former vice president Joe Biden said Monday that the “rushed and unprecedented” confirmation of Supreme Court Justice Amy Coney Barrett should inspire Americans to vote against President Donald Trump.

In a statement released shortly after Barrett was sworn in by Justice Clarence Thomas Monday evening, Biden, the Democratic nominee for president, condemned the new justice’s confirmation. Barrett began hearing cases Tuesday, according to the New York Post. (RELATED: Schumer Promises That ‘Generations Yet Unborn Will Suffer’ From Amy Coney Barrett’s Confirmation)

“The rushed and unprecedented confirmation of Amy Coney Barrett as Associate Justice to the Supreme Court, in the middle of an ongoing election, should be a stark reminder to every American that your vote matters,” Biden said, the NY Post reported.

He continued: “This goal — the goal of the Republican Party for ten years — was a litmus test in selecting this nominee, regardless of the damage done to the US Senate, to Americans’ faith in the legitimacy of the Supreme Court, and to our democracy, and regardless of how the Affordable Care Act has protected hundreds of millions of people and during the pandemic.”

The 2020 presidential candidate pushed Americans to vote for him if they disagree with Barrett’s confirmation.

“If you want to protect your health care, if you want your voice to be heard in Washington, if you want to say no, this abuse of power doesn’t represent you — then turn out and vote,” he said in the statement.
