Former Georgia gubernatorial candidate Stacey Abrams failed in her attempts to win the Georgia gubernatorial race in 2018. With the presidential race too close to call (yet) in longstanding Republican stronghold Georgia, but with Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden with a narrow lead, Abrams seems to have proved her worth to the Democratic party.
The last time Georgia voted for a Democratic candidate for president was in 1992 according to Ballotpedia, when former President Bill Clinton beat incumbent Republican President George H.W. Bush by 0.59%. Some say this was due to the fact that Ross Perot captured 13.34% of the vote. Prior to that, the last time a Democratic presidential candidate won Georgia was in 1980 when former President Jimmy Carter carried his home state.
