“The View” host Sunny Hostin complained Tuesday that, in part due to President Donald Trump’s claims, people were “questioning the legitimacy” of the 2020 presidential election.

Cohost Whoopi Goldberg mentioned the fact that Attorney General William Barr had opened the door for the Justice Department to investigate allegations of fraud, and Hostin argued that had created a dangerous situation by undermining the public trust in elections. “I think the point of all of it is to sow discord and certainly sow some sort of — to sow discord,” Hostin said in reference to the Trump administration’s continued challenges to the election process. “I also think, Whoopi, this is really dangerous. People now are questioning our very democracy and questioning the legitimacy of Joe Biden’s, you know, election as president. And I think that’s terrible.”

Hostin went on to claim that voter fraud was “not a real thing” and accused Barr of politicizing the Justice Department on behalf of President Donald Trump.

“When you see Attorney General Barr breaking tradition, a 40-year tradition, interfering in an election by the Justice Department and making sure the Justice Department is now, I don’t know, President Trump’s personal law firm, the very foundation of our democracy and all our public systems is being attacked from the inside, from the inside,” she said.

Just over a year ago, Hostin appeared to be more comfortable with the idea of questioning the legitimacy of an election. She said in July of 2019 that if President Trump were reelected in 2020, there would be no guarantee that his election was “legitimate.

“There is evidence that Russians hacked into the ballots, the electronic ballots in 50 states, all 50 states, but didn’t change any of the votes,” Hostin said. “It seems to me that they were just trying to see if they could do it. So since this president doesn’t believe in his own intelligence community and has done nothing to stop that from occurring in 2020, who’s to say that if he is re-elected that it’s a legitimate election?”
