Three Virginia men associated with MS-13 were indicted in connection with suspected gang-related murder and violence, the Washington Post reported Tuesday.
The gang members were involved in a murder in Charlottesville, Virginia, around three years ago and two attempted murders in Prince William County, Virginia, last year, according to the indictment, the Post reported. The men are reportedly members of the East coast branch of MS-13, a gang largely based in El-Salvador.
“We will not stop until we get MS-13 contained and eradicated,” U.S. Attorney General Zachary Terwilliger said, the Post reported. “What we’re seeing from MS-13 is increased coordination, increased sophistication.”

The three men are charged in the killing of Marvin Joel Rivera Guevara, 24, whose body was found in a creek in Charlottesville, Virginia, in 2017, the Post reported. Guevara was suspected to belong to the 18th Street Gang, a rival of MS-13.
Guevara was stabbed over 140 times, the Daily Progress reported. He reportedly told a co-worker that MS-13 did not make the rules in the U.S., which was seen by MS-13 as disrespectful. (RELATED: MS-13 Member Allegedly Involved In Gruesome Murder Of 15-Year-Old Extradited From El Salvador)
MS-13 originated in Los Angeles, California in the 1980s, with a presence in Washington, D.C. that can be traced back to the 1990s, according to the Department of Justice. Murders committed by gang members have reportedly decreased since law enforcement action in 2017, though violent activity has continued.
MS-13 members shot men suspected of being rival gang members twice last year in Prince William County, Virginia, according to the indictment reported by the Post. Sixteen members of the MS-13 Prince Williams branch were charged with multiple gang-related crimes including four murders.
In Alexandria, Virginia, local MS-13 members were federally charged in August with sex trafficking a 13-year-old girl, and a gang leader was charged with terrorism, the Post reported.
