Jay Jacobs, Chairman for the New York Democratic Party slammed New York Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez for being the reason that many Democrats didn’t fare well in the 2020 elections, citing her and other progressives’ socialist policies as an example, according to The Washington Times.

While the Democratic Party did retain the majority in the House, the party underperformed pre-election expectations. Jacobs, along with several other moderate-leaning Democrats feel that progressives such as Ocasio-Cortez and the “Defund the Police” movement ultimately scared voters away, according to The Washington Times.

“AOC has no standing on how to run a general election in the suburbs and upstate,” Jacobs explained to the New York Post. “AOC is in a district that’s 6-1 Democrat and she couldn’t find a Republican in her district with binoculars.” (RELATED: Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Says Rahm Emanuel Should Not Participate In A Biden Administration)

“I invite AOC to come to Long Island and stand for election in one of our districts. You’ll see different results,” Jacobs added.

Jacobs, who is also the Democratic Leader for Nassau County, New York agreed with House Majority Whip James Clyburn’s comments to The Washington Times that the Defund the Police movement and other socialist policies frightened many Americans, and particularly hurt many Democrats running for election in swing districts.
