A number of President Donald Trump’s closest allies have turned on accused “con artists” Lin Wood and Sidney Powell following comments they made Wednesday at a “Stop the Steal” rally in Georgia.

Attorneys Wood and Powell, both former Democrats, styled the event as a rally in support Trump’s attempts to overturn the results of the 2020 general election, where they accused Georgia’s Republican Governor Brian Kemp of working for China and called on all Republicans to withhold votes for incumbent Sens. Kelly Loeffler and David Perdue in the upcoming Senate runoffs because it would be “another rigged election.” (RELATED: Trump Says He’ll Rally In Georgia For Loeffler And Perdue On December 5)

Loeffler and Perdue face off against Democratic candidates Rev. Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff, respectively, in the runoffs on Jan. 5. If both Warnock and Ossoff win, Democrats will eliminate the GOP’s Senate majority. Both parties will hold 50 seats, with Vice President-elect Kamala Harris casting the tie-breaking vote in any deadlock.

“This isn’t about blindly supporting a political party, it’s about defending our god-given constitutional liberties from power-hungry left-wing radicals, who would happily attempt to re-write the Constitution if given total control of government,” Andy Surabian, an advisor to Donald Trump Jr. and co-founder of Save the US Senate PAC, told the Daily Caller on Thursday. “No politician owns your vote, but unilateral disarmament only emboldens and rewards the very people who spent the last 4 years resisting, sabotaging and literally impeaching this President.”

“If you care about protecting President Trump’s amazing accomplishments and want to stop Democrats from achieving their decades long end game of permanently transforming this country, then we believe it’s vital to hold the line and stand with President Trump in support of Senators Perdue and Loeffler on January 5th,” he added.

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, one of the president’s top campaign surrogates, claimed Thursday morning that Wood and Powell are “totally destructive.”

“Every Georgia conservative who cares about America MUST vote in the runoff,” Gingrich, who had previously been an ardent supporter of Trump and former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani’s post-election legal battles, wrote. “Their don’t vote strategy will cripple America.” (RELATED: Will ‘Rigged Election’ Claims Hurt GOP Chances In Georgia Runoffs?)

The Daily Wire’s Matt Walsh, another ardent Trump supporter on social media, called Wood and Powell “con artists.”

“When the Democrats win, the same con artists will say they stole it,” he tweeted Thursday morning. “Then they’ll ask you to give them money so they can keep “fighting for our Republic.”

“The scam is so obvious. How do people not see it?”

Arthur Schwartz, another advisor to Donald Trump Jr., accused Wood of being a Democrat.

“End this nonsense. Hold the line. Vote,” he added. “Defend our Senate majority.”

Breitbart News published a piece Wednesday night detailing Wood’s history of voting for and donating to Democrats.

The article was additionally circulated Wednesday night by the Trump campaign’s official War Room Twitter account.

Trump himself has urged Georgians to vote for Loeffler and Perdue and plans to hold a campaign rally Friday in support of the two senators in Valdosta, Georgia. (RELATED: Republican Georgia Secretary Of State Slams ‘Dishonest Actors’ For ‘Misleading’ POTUS On Dominion)

Wood has never been affiliated with the Trump campaign in any official capacity, and Powell was dismissed from the campaign’s official legal efforts following a press conference in November when she detailed a conspiracy theory in which Chinese, Cuban and Venezuelan communists conspired with Dominion Voting Systems to rig the election.

Asked by Daily Caller for comment on Wood and Powell’s statements, Trump campaign communications director Tim Murtaugh pointed to a tweet he had sent earlier in the day telling voters “it’s imperative” that Georgians “send [Perdue] and [Loeffler] back to the Senate and elect other Republicans.”
