Big Money, Big Media — And No Results? What History Has To Say About Dems In Georgia

The upcoming runoff elections in Georgia for two United States Senate seats have generated major enthusiasm and a flood of donations for Democrats, but that formula has rarely translated into them winning elections in recent history. 

In just the first three weeks after the Nov. 3 general election, online fundraising platforms ActBlue and WinRed saw more than $167 million donated to the campaigns of Democratic challengers Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff, and incumbent Republicans Sens. Kelly Loeffler and David Perdue. Millions more have been raised since then by all four campaigns and the various PACs and committees supporting them, but Democrats have been uniquely energized.
