The state of California is currently experiencing the highest number of new COVID-19 cases per day in America on a per-capita basis.

With more than 100 new daily cases per 100,000 residents, the Golden State has surpassed Tennessee for the top spot in the country, SFGATE reports. Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom’s state has been experiencing a substantial surge in cases, going from just 21 new cases per 100,000 people on Nov. 17 to over 100 just after Christmas, according to SFGATE.
