A woman was caught Feb. 3 attempting to smuggle $60,000 inside a pack of menstrual pads, a U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) statement released Thursday said.

The money was shoved into envelopes and hidden among Always Ultra Thin menstrual pads, which CBP called “sanitary napkins,” inside the pads’ original packaging, a photo attached to the CBP statement showed.

CBP officers based out of the Detroit Metropolitan Airport found the $60,000 in cash after searching the woman’s baggage, the statement said. Before the officers found the cash, the woman told CBP that she was carrying $1,000 on her way to Amsterdam.

Because she was transporting over $10,000 and failed to report it to a CBP officer, the agency seized the funds. (RELATED: US Customs And Border Protection Agents Seize Almost 200 Pounds Of Bologna)

“CBP enforces these regulations to combat money laundering or other criminal offenses,” Port Director Robert Larkin said in the statement. “I’m proud of our officers and the work they do to interrupt currency smuggling operations and illegal activities daily.”

In 2020, the CBP reported over $93.3 million in confiscated currency, according to Fox News.
