NBC: U.S. still hasn’t ruled out lab accident origin for Covid because China hasn’t been transparent

Despite a finding by the World Health Organization that the Covid-19 outbreak in China most likely first infected humans through an animal host, the United States is still not ruling out the possibility of a laboratory accident, as officials continue to sort through intelligence about the Chinese government’s initial handling of the outbreak, American and Western officials told NBC News.

A spokesman for the Office of the Director of National Intelligence told NBC News the agency is standing by a public statement it issued in April, which said that that American intelligence agencies “will continue to rigorously examine emerging information and intelligence to determine whether the outbreak began through contact with infected animals or if it was the result of an accident at a laboratory in Wuhan.” […]

A Western intelligence official who has seen classified material told NBC News the U.S. has substantial intelligence that has not been made public about actions the Chinese government took — related to the Wuhan lab and other issues — that were designed to obscure the origins of Covid-19 and conceal its early impact. A former U.S. official who has also seen the intelligence agreed that it was significant, if inconclusive.

Both sources said the material, which they did not detail, did not add up to evidence that a lab accident occurred. But they said it raised enough circumstantial questions that analysts have been unable to rule out the lab scenario. U.S. intelligence officials declined to comment.

The intelligence, which includes documents, paints a picture of a Chinese government initially trying to hide the burgeoning pandemic from the outside world.

‘Bulls**t, Bulls**t’: Fox News’ Larry Kudlow Caught On Hot Mic Cursing Over Kamala Harris’ Vaccine Distribution Claims (VIDEO)

Just before a commercial break, “America Reports” played a short clip of Harris claiming that the administration is “starting from scratch” regarding vaccine distributions for COVID-19. Her comments, made in an interview that aired Sunday with Axios founder Mike Allen, contradicted what Dr. Anthony Fauci said last month.

As the clip played, Kudlow could be heard repeatedly cursing.

“Bullshit, bullshit …” Kudlow said before the mic briefly appeared to cut out. “Unbelievable falsehoods.”

“First and foremost is he nominated a woman to lead the Small Business Administration who formerly worked there. The second thing is he signed an executive order to make it easier for minority-owned small businesses to get access to the funding that they need,” she said.

Here Comes The Pork: Congressional Earmarks Are Reportedly Making A Comeback

Congress is planning to bring back earmarks, House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer reportedly told Democrats during a Tuesday call.

Hoyer told Democrats that he can “guarantee” that there will be a “bipartisan” effort to bring back the spending practice, two people on the call said according to a Politico report. A spokesperson told the outlet that House Appropriations Chair Rosa DeLauro “is working through the details of a reformed process” for earmarks and more information will be shared “in the coming weeks.”

Democratic Senate Appropriations Chair Patrick Leahy has “been clear about his intent to restore congressionally directed spending in a transparent and accountable way as part Congress’ constitutional power of the purse,” a spokesperson for Leahy said according to Politico.

Earmarks are line items that are inserted into bills directing money towards a specific recipient. Politicians have been accused of “pork-barrelling,” or using earmarks for favors or to direct money towards their own district. […]

In May of 2019, Senate Republicans passed a permanent ban on the spending practice with a 28-12 vote. Before the permanent ban on earmarks, Republicans had been continuously renewing a temporary two-year ban that had been in place since 2011.

CNN And NBC Both Paid $35,000 To Left-Wing Activist For Footage Of Fatal Capitol Shooting

A left-wing activist facing criminal charges for his involvement in the Capitol riots received $35,000 from both CNN and NBC for footage he recorded of a Trump supporter being fatally shot inside the Capitol building, according to records he filed in federal court on Tuesday.

Lawyers for John Sullivan, a 26-year-old Utah native, disclosed the payments as part of the activist’s argument that he was acting as a journalist in the Capitol rather than a rioter.

“Defendant is legitimately self-employed as a documentarian and it is oppressive to require that he not be allowed to continue his primary area of employment for an extended period of time,” Steven R. Kiersh, the Sullivan lawyer, wrote in a court filing in which he argued for Sullivan to be allowed to continue using Facebook and Twitter.

Sullivan, who founded the social justice group Insurgence USA, was charged on Jan. 13 with illegally entering the Capitol, civil disorder, and violent or disorderly conduct on Capitol grounds.

Prosecutors cited video that Sullivan recorded inside the Capitol in which he called for burning down the building, while egging on others who had broken into the building.

New York Prep School Principal Sent Parents An Actual Whiteness Meter, Including A ‘White Traitor’ Category, Reports Say

A prep school principal in New York sent white parents of students in grades 6-12 a graphic calling on them to become “white traitors” and ultimately “white abolitionists,” according to tweets from critical-race-theory skeptic Christopher Rufo.

The correspondence sent to white parents at East Side Community School is a “tool for action,” helping white people to gauge their status in “white identity” beginning at “white supremacist” and ultimately reaching “white abolition,” where one strives to “change institutions, dismantle whiteness, and not allow whiteness to reassert itself,” according to Rufo’s tweet.

‘All Rich Countries Should Move To 100% Synthetic Beef,’ Says Bill Gates

Bill Gates proposed that the wealthiest countries in the world should do away with beef, and instead adopt synthetic alternatives in order to combat global climate change, in a recent interview with the MIT Technology Review.

The Microsoft co-founder and philanthropist previewed his new book, ‘How To Avoid A Climate Disaster,’ in the interview, discussing measures that he believes must be taken in order to eliminate greenhouse gases completely and avoid a climate catastrophe.

One of the initiatives he suggested is for rich countries to fully adopt plant-based meat products in an effort to reduce methane emissions.

“I do think all rich countries should move to 100% synthetic beef. You can get used to the taste difference, and the claim is they’re going to make it taste even better over time,” Gates said in the interview.
