Ole Miss and BYU will play twice in football in the coming years.

The Rebels announced Monday that they’ve scheduled a home-and-home series with the Cougars. The first game will be in Provo September 16, 2028, and the Cougars will then travel to Oxford September 8, 2029. (RELATED: David Hookstead Is The True King In The North When It Comes To College Football)

This is a great scheduling decision for both programs. BYU is arguably the best program outside of the P5 conferences, and they need tough opponents in the playoff era.

As we saw this past season with BYU before they lost to Coastal Carolina, it’s hard to get serious playoff consideration if you don’t play solid opponents.

As for Ole Miss, the Rebels will always have to run the gauntlet that is the SEC West, and adding an outstanding non-conference opponent will only increase their playoff chances.

No matter how you slice it, both sides made a great decision here.

Finally, I know how Ole Miss fans like to party. They like to have a good time, which means Provo is going to have to prepare because they were pretty much overwhelmed when Wisconsin showed up to town. Get that beer on ice!
