ANALYSIS: How Biden’s China Policies Make Use Of Trump-Era Tactics

Despite the expectation that his election would mark a major shift in the American stance towards China, President Joe Biden has largely continued with the Trump-era toolbox of tariffs and sanctions, even as he has involved allied nations in some areas.

Describing China as America’s “biggest competitor,” Biden has advocated more involvement for the United States’ allies in foreign policy. He also reportedly said that China could “eat our lunch,” and Secretary of State Antony Blinken said China is the only country that could threaten American global leadership.
