Musician Jennifer Lopez and baseball star Alex Rodriguez officially called off their engagement.

“We have realized we are better as friends and look forward to remaining so,” the couple said in a statement, People magazine reported Thursday. “We will continue to work together and support each other on our shared businesses and projects. We wish the best for each other and one another’s children. Out of respect for them, the only other comment we have is to say is thank you to everyone who has sent kind words and support.”

The couple officially ended their engagement weeks after they made headlines for their relationship being on the rocks. At the time the two said they were “working through some things,” as previously reported. (RELATED: Jennifer Lopez And Alex Rodriguez Might Be On The Rocks Following Reports Of A Split)

The previous break-up reports surfaced after Rodriguez reportedly cheated on Lopez with “Southern Charm” star Madison LeCroy. The reality star claimed that Rodriguez had never physically cheated on Rodriguez, but admitted the pair had been Facetiming each other, according to Page Six.

Lopez and Rodriguez had postponed their wedding twice since getting engaged in March of 2019. The singer previously admitted she might not ever marry Rodriguez.

I guess this comes as no surprise to anyone that’s actually been paying attention. Lopez deserves better than Rodriguez. She can do way better, in fact. She’s Jennifer Lopez. She could have anyone she wanted, quite literally.

I’m glad they’re being cordial about it, even if it is just for the kids.
