Support for the Black Lives Matter movement has fallen 10 percentage points since June 2020, while trust in law enforcement has grown 13 percentage points over the same time period. It has grown immensely in political and financial power over the past year — so what’s prompted the drop?
A USA Today/Ipsos poll found that American trust in the Black Lives Matter “to promote justice and equal treatment for people of all races” dropped from 60% in June 2020 — shortly after George Floyd died in police custody — to 50% in March 2021. It also found that trust in local police and other law enforcement to do the same rose from 56% to 69% over the same time period.
