The Academy Awards received horrible TV ratings Sunday night on ABC.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the award show for movies averaged 9.85 million viewers on ABC. (REVIEW: ‘Westworld’ Season 3 Ends With The Possible Deaths Of Multiple Characters)

The show last year averaged 23.64 million viewers, according to the same THR report. That means the Oscars saw a drop of more than 58% in TV viewership.

I think we all knew the ratings were going to be bad, but I’m not sure anyone expected them to be this horrific. The numbers could see a slight bounce as data keeps rolling in, but there’s nothing that will save the 2021 ceremony from being the worst on record.

The numbers are abysmal.

It just goes to show that people are sick and tired of being lectured by millionaires about how we’re the problem. We want to be entertained.

We don’t want to listen to grown adults with tons of money in the bank complain.

The question now is whether or not award shows will ever bounce back. At this rate, I’d say the changes are next to zero. Once you start hitting record lows for consecutive years, you’re in big trouble.
