A Pennsylvania man pleaded guilty to distributing child pornography and to owning videos that showed the “sadistic and masochistic abuse” of young children, the Justice Department announced Tuesday.

George Goodwin, 49, pleaded guilty in federal court to distributing material depicting the sexual exploitation of children, according to the statement. Goodwin is a Pittsburgh resident.

Roughly two months before the guilty plea, Goodwin sent two videos via an internet chat depicting children engaged in sexual acts with adults. (RELATED: Former Teacher Arrested On Child Porn Charges Allegedly Pretended To Be Girl To Solicit Naked Photos From Teens)

Authorities carried out multiple search warrants at Goodwin’s property and found a “large collection of child pornography.” Some videos showed “sadistic and masochistic abuse of prepubescent children,” the statement said.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) was involved in the investigation.

Goodwin faces a potential 20-year prison sentence, a fine of $250,000 or both. He is scheduled to be sentenced on Sept. 7.

Until his sentencing court appearance, Goodwin is released on home detention and $50,000 bond, according to the statement.

The average sentence for offenders guilty of trafficking in child pornography in 2018 was 136 months in prison, and nearly 87% of offenders were convicted of an offense carrying a five-year mandatory minimum penalty, according to the United States Sentencing Commission (USSC).

In 13.4% of child pornography cases, offenders were subject to 15-year mandatory minimum penalties due to prior sexual abuse or child pornography convictions, according to the USSC.

It was not clear whether Goodwin had previous child pornography offenses. (RELATED: Authorities In Germany Arrest Administrators Of One Of The ‘World’s Biggest Child Pornography Darknet Platforms’)
