Toronto Maple Leafs forward John Tavares suffered a horrifying hit Thursday night during a 2-1 loss to the Canadiens.

During the playoff game against Montreal, Tavares went down to the ice after getting hit and then had his face accidentally smashed by Corey Perry as he skated by. (RELATED: David Hookstead Is The True King In The North When It Comes To College Football)

According to ESPN, Tavares was rushed to the hospital, where he is “conscious and communicating well.” You can watch the terrifying situation below.

Obviously, your heart goes out to both players involved in this situation. Tavares has suffered a serious medical situation after that shot to the head and is now in the hospital.

It really doesn’t get much scarier than hits to the head.

At the same time, that was a 100% accident from Perry. It’s the definition of being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Tavares hit the ice and Perry just happened to be skating right past him. There wasn’t much he could do. It wasn’t malicious at all, but it doesn’t matter.

Tavares is still in the hospital.

Hopefully, Tavares gets better as soon as possible. It’s just an incredibly unfortunate and scary situation.
