Republican Louisiana Sen. John Kennedy said Tuesday that giving the “corrupted administration” in Guatemala more taxpayer money is “like giving whiskey and car keys to a teenager.”
“I think that the reason the vice president went to Guatemala and met with President [Alejandro] Giammattei is to offer him billions and billions of American taxpayer dollars to try to make his country better, and with no disrespect but that’s like giving whiskey and car keys to a teenager,” Kennedy told “Fox & Friends.”
“President Giammattei is an authoritarian. He presides over a corrupted administration. They’re probably going to steal the money. Corruption is rampant,” Kennedy continued. (RELATED: Failure Of Action’: Lara Logan Says Biden Wants To ‘Obliterate Immigration Law’ And ‘Open The Border’)
The senator claimed drug cartels are running Guatemala and that the primary reason the country’s president wants his people to move to America is that “they get a job and send money back home,” which Kennedy said is a great asset to Guatemala’s GDP.
“Now, you don’t have to be Einstein’s cousin to figure all of this out.”
The senator said despite Vice President Kamala Harris’ talk that migrants should not enter the United States illegally, “the Biden administration believes in open borders. They may say otherwise, but most of the members of the Biden administration that I’ve talked to believe that vetting people at the border is racist.” (RELATED: ‘Every State Is Now A Border State’: Former DHS Secretary Says Biden Administration Is ‘Breaking The System’)
President Joe Biden tapped Harris to address the border crisis, but she has yet to visit the southern border.
Biden’s eight-year path to citizenship plan would allow all illegal immigrants living in the U.S. as of Jan. 1, 2021, to achieve temporary legal status in five years and to apply for citizenship after an additional three years. Meanwhile, White House press secretary Jen Psaki has blamed the Trump administration for the surge of illegal immigrants at the border.
