The U.S. fertility rate has been hitting record lows year by year, and the trend has prompted concerns in some corners about the future of the country.

The total fertility rate is 1.64 children per woman in the U.S., a record low following record lows in 2019 and 2018, according to FiveThirtyEight. The 2021 fertility rate is the lowest one since the government began tracking this data in the 1930s.
