The wife of the late antivirus software pioneer John McAfee is denying that he was suicidal.
“His last words to me were ‘I love you and I will call you in the evening,'” Janice McAfee said Friday, according to The Associated Press. John McAfee died Wednesday at the Brians 2 penitentiary in Barcelona, in a reported suicide, hours after a Spanish court ruled that he could be extradited to the United States to face fraud, tax evasion and money laundering charges.

“Those words are not words of somebody who is suicidal,” Janice McAfee continued.
“We were prepared for that decision and had a plan of action already in place to appeal that decision,” she said of the extradition ruling. “I blame the US authorities for this tragedy. John McAfee, who invented the antivirus software that bears his name, ran for president in 2016 and 2020. After failing to gain the nomination of the Libertarian Party, he appeared on ballots as an Independent both times.
He had previously compared himself to disgraced financier and sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, who died in a New York prison of apparent suicide in August 2019. Epstein’s death spawned conspiracy theories due to his political and financial connections.
