The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) ruined the College World Series by ending what would have been one of sports history’s best Cinderella stories.

The North Carolina State Wolfpack was one of the hottest teams in college baseball heading into their stint at Omaha. After starting 4-9 overall and 1-8 in Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) play, they won 33 of their last 43 games, according to The Associated Press. The Wolfpack then made 64-team NCAA tournament as a number two seed and went on to knock out number one-ranked Arkansas in the Super Regionals in a shocking upset, the AP reported. But, just one win away from advancing to the CWS finals, the NCAA kicked the North Carolina State Wolfpack baseball team out of the tournament over positive COVID-19 tests.
