ANALYSIS: The Growing Epidemic Almost Nobody Is Talking About

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to recede and American public life has mostly returned to normal, public health experts are now urging the nation to turn its attention to another epidemic, one that has become worse in recent years: loneliness.

Making Care Common, a research initiative at Harvard University, conducted a survey of almost 1,000 Americans last year to gauge public opinion on loneliness and social isolation. Its preliminary findings released in February revealed that 36% of Americans — including 51% of mothers with young children and 61% of young adults — reported frequent loneliness.
