ANALYSIS: The Olympic Transgender Policy Just Disqualified Two Women From Competing

With the Olympics just weeks away, policies intended to make women’s sports more gender inclusive are actually resulting in women being excluded from prestigious international competition.

Two sprinters from Namibia will no longer be allowed to compete in the 400m dash because of high, naturally-occurring testosterone levels, according to Axios. Using testosterone as the litmus test for who qualifies as a woman — rather than birth certificates — is the result of years of deliberation amongst sports’ governing bodies.
