Democratic New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo thinks gun violence is a “disaster emergency” in his state. While rising gun violence and crime rates in the state of New York are undoubtedly cause for concern, statistics indicate his own administration is New York’s other “disaster emergency.”

Cuomo signed an executive order declaring gun violence a “disaster emergency.” These kinds of emergency declarations are typically used for natural disasters and similar incidents because it allows the government to redirect funding towards initiatives and communities as needed.
