China and the U.S. marked two important anniversaries in early July, but there was a notable distinction in the way the ruling Chinese Communist Party in Beijing and the ruling Democratic Party in Washington spoke about their respective countries.

At a celebration for the 100-year anniversary of the CCP on July 1, Chinese President Xi Jinping delivered a speech praising the party and China’s increasing role in global affairs. His hour-long speech notably featured themes of an emerging Chinese nationalism which emphasizes the need for one-party rule and the supremacy of the CCP, The Associated Press reported.
