The Washington, D.C. chapter of Black Lives Matter slammed the D.C. police union Sunday morning and accused them of fighting to allow cops to “brutalize” black people.

In response to a video someone posted of people running after a Saturday shooting at the Washington Nationals vs. San Diego Padres game, the D.C. police union called out lawmakers for not allowing them to do their jobs and enforce the law.

“Welcome to Washington, D.C. Where violent crime permeates everything,” the police union said. “It is a tragedy that elected officials won’t let us do our jobs.” (RELATED: ‘A Gut Punch,’ ‘We Just Feel Abandoned’: Police Union Execs Sound Off About Lack Of Morale That They Say Is Resulting From Politicians)

DC Black Lives Matter responded and said the police union is run by “a raging right wing extremist” who lets the police get away with violence and even encourages it.

“Welcome to DC where the @DCPoliceUnion is run by a raging right wing extremist leading a campaign to fight for cops to keep brutalizing and killing Black people and then blaming it on those Black people while being unable to stop the violence they fuel,” the organization said.

Black Lives Matter has repeatedly pushed an anti-police stance nationwide. Officials of the organization routinely accuse the police of perpetrating violence against minorities and their members have supported defunding the police entirely.
