Republican Louisiana Sen. John Kennedy said Thursday that President Joe Biden is lying about the Democratic Party not being anti-police and supporting the movement to defund police forces.
“President Biden is not telling the truth,” Kennedy told Fox News’ “America’s Newsroom.”
“Maybe George Washington could not tell a lie, but just about every politician since has mastered the skill,” Kennedy continued. “I don’t mean to be ugly, but President Biden has a Ph.D. in it. Now some politicians lie because it’s useful. Other politicians lie because they forget.”
Kennedy said Biden was not being truthful about his support for “cutting police spending.”
“If you look at the Democratic Party platform, which he wrote, it talks extensively about reimagining the police. Among President Biden’s most ardent supporters are the Democratic mayors of most large cities. New York, Chicago, L.A., San Francisco, Seattle, Portland. They’ve all cut police spending,” Kennedy continued. (RELATED: ‘Maybe He Needs To Buy An Emotional Support Pony’: Sen. Kennedy Says Tony Fauci ‘Needs To Cut The Crap’)
Biden declared emphatically during a Wednesday night town hall that the Democratic Party is not “anti-police” and that Republicans are lying when they say it is. Various Democratic lawmakers from the progressive wing of the party have strongly supported defunding the police. However, the party is increasingly backing away from that position because it is proving unpopular with mainstream voters.
During his run for the presidency, Biden said he did not support defunding the police and accused former President Donald Trump of wanting to do so. During the town hall, Biden also dismissed those who continue to support defunding the police, claiming, “I am the Democratic Party.”
But Kennedy argued Biden has “a problem with his party.”
“Not all Democrats, but many Democrats, the whack jobs, truly do believe in defunding the police. They think … most cops are racist, apparently even the African-American cops. They think cops are guilty until proven innocent.” (RELATED: ‘Like Making El Chapo The Drug Czar’: Sen. John Kennedy Questions Choice Of Kamala Harris As Illegal Immigration Head)
Kennedy said police officers are often blamed for shooting “a bad guy” but if the assailant shoots the cop, “it’s the gun’s fault.”
“The American people see that and actions have consequences, and when they deemphasize the importance of the police, crime rises. Duh. And that’s been what’s happening throughout America.”
