A group of New Mexico teens was trapped at the top of a rollercoaster for several hours Sunday night after the ride stalled, according to authorities.

West Valley Fire Department (WVFD) firefighters were called to Western Playland amusement park around 8:38 p.m. Sunday night to help Sunland Park Fire Department rescue eight teens who were trapped atop a high rollercoaster. The teens were stuck on the ride for two hours, according to the New York Post.

Authorities say there were no injuries and impending thunderstorms thankfully held off until all passengers were safely brought to the ground. The teens were brought down from the ride individually with the help of firefighters. Angel Cuevas, who was one of the eight passengers stuck, told CBS 4 he and the other passengers were friends. “I knew everyone that was up there, so we kept each other company,” Cuevas reportedly said. “Some of us got hungry and others had to use the restroom.”

“Waiting that long was pretty wild for us, but we were all grateful that we got down safely,” he continued.

It is unclear what caused the ride to stall.
