Actress Cobie Smulders was tapped to play Ann Coulter in the FX Drama “Impeachment: American Crime Story,” Variety reported on Aug. 5.

Smulders will replace Betty Gilpin, who turned down the role because of scheduling complications due to COVID-19, according to Variety. Gilpin, of “Nurse Jackie” and “GLOW,” told Jimmy Kimmel in June that turning down the role was “another COVID disappointment.”

Smulders is known for her role as Robin in the CBS sitcom “How I Met Your Mother,” and also nabbed a recurring role in Marvel’s “Avengers” franchise. (RELATED: Netflix Releases Awesome ‘Stranger Things’ Season 4 Preview)

The third season of FX’s “American Crime Story” series “Impeachment” is based on the book “A Vast Conspiracy: The Real Story of the Sex Scandal That Nearly Brought Down a President” by Jeffrey Toobin, and covers the Monica Lewinsky scandal, which led to the impeachment of then-President Bill Clinton, Variety reported.
