The bipartisan infrastructure bill making its way through the Senate, titled the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA), is expected to cost $1.2 trillion over eight years and was the result of negotiations among 22 senators and President Joe Biden.
The IIJA overcame a Senate filibuster Sunday, putting the sweeping public works package on a path to final passage around Tuesday. The bill would be the largest investment in transportation and broadband infrastructure in decades, but must first pass both chambers of Congress before making it to the president’s desk.
