Hunter Johnson will start at quarterback for the Northwestern Wildcats.

The Wildcats announced Tuesday afternoon that the former Clemson quarterback successfully beat out Ryan Hilinski to win the starting job. (RELATED: David Hookstead Is The True King In The North When It Comes To College Football)

This is an incredibly shocking decision, and I’m sitting in my chair stunned right now. Coach Pat Fitzgerald really believes Hunter Johnson is the man for the job?

Damn, what the hell is he seeing that the rest of us aren’t that he chose Johnson over Hilinski?

Johnson last threw a pass for NW in 2019 and finished the season with a disappointing 432 yards, one touchdown and four interceptions.

He might have been a major recruit coming out of high school, but I think I speak for everyone when I say he hasn’t done anything in college to inspire confidence.

Furthermore, we know Ryan Hilinski can play. When he was healthy at South Carolina, he was a very solid passing option.

At the very least, he was damn sure more dependable than Johnson has ever been at Northwestern.

I have no idea what Fitzgerald is up to, but naming Hunter Johnson the team’s starting QB seems like a recipe for disaster.
