FBI “Operation Hold My Beer” sent a convicted Mexican man to federal prison for 14 years for conspiring to distribute methamphetamine in the U.S., the Department of Justice announced Wednesday.

Jesus Ivan Resendez-Gomez, 35, from Camargo, Tamaulipas, Mexico, pleaded guilty to conspiring to distribute over 500 grams, or a little over a pound, of methamphetamine near McAllen, Texas, on Oct. 7, 2019, according to the Department of Justice (DOJ). Resendez-Gomez is not a U.S. citizen, and he will likely be deported.

Resendez-Gomez was convicted of possession with the intent to distribute over 670 pounds of marijuana in 2014, according to the DOJ, including two previous drug transactions involving methamphetamine.

Resendez-Gomez admitted to giving a co-conspirator around two pounds of methamphetamine which was taken to Palmhurst, Texas, just west of McAllen, according to the DOJ. He will remain in custody until authorities transfer him to a U.S. Bureau of Prisons facility. (RELATED: Border Agents Make Second Largest Meth Seizure After Finding Over 3,000 Pounds Of Drugs)

The FBI and Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Forces target drug traffickers, money launderers, gangs and criminal organizations through “Operation Hold My Beer,” according to the DOJ. The task forces include 1,200 federal agents and 5,000 state and local law enforcement officials.

Customs and Border Protection officials seized more than 360,000 pounds of narcotics since January, including nearly 104,000 pounds of methamphetamine, according to the agency.
