A man was attacked and stabbed in the face and abdomen multiple times Saturday in Brooklyn, according to video footage posted by the New York Police Department.
The attacker wore a blue hooded sweatshirt and pounced on the 25-year-old victim using a sharp object on Hegeman Avenue at about 5:20 p.m., according to the video and information the New York Police Department released Tuesday. With his right hand in his pocket, the suspect approached the victim who was carrying a pizza box, pulled out the object, and charged at him in front of a store while bystanders watched, video shows. He jabbed the object in the victim’s face, causing him to lean over, and then grabbed him again and continued violently assaulting him as the victim tried fighting back, according to the footage.
The victim did not know the attacker, who fled from the area after the attack, police said. The victim is recovering at a hospital and is in fair condition, according to authorities.
The overall crime index in New York City increased 0.2% in July 2021 compared with July 2020, driven by a 13.9% increase in Grand Larceny Auto and an 8.6% increase in robbery. The crime statistics for August 2021 have not yet been released.
